Work Culture Preferences
Steve Hunt (2013) states, “in terms of candidate sourcing and attraction, the most important aspect of culture is the degree to which common practices and beliefs in your company are perceived as unique and similar to the beliefs and preferences of candidates” (para.3). When identifying the ideal work culture, Ineed one that will help in maximizing my competencies and I have a future with. After completing the work culture preference assessment, Ifound that I greatly benefit from high powered, leadership intensive, and supportivework culture. I need an organization that challenging, has the opportunity for leadership, and clearly has defined jobs, goals, and expectations. These aspects of a work cultureadequately will helpme in developing long-term and short-term plans which willhelp me attain organizational goals.
To conduct a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) analysis I must utilize my areas of expertise. The SWOT analysis “is one of the cornerstone analytical tools to help an organization develop a preferred future. It is one of the time tested tools that has the capacity to enable an organization to understand itself” (Jensen, para.1). My area of expertise is research and I believethis competency is vital as it aids in learning from failures and successes, in addition to obtaining staff and customer feedback. Functional Areas of Business
“Management involves coordinating and overseeing the work activities of others, so that their activities are completed efficiently and effectively” (Robbins, p. 8, para. 1). The manager aspect is important because “organizations need their managerial skills and abilities more than ever in these uncertain, complex, and chaotic times” (Robbins, p. 4, para. 3). Within an organization there are managers over different departments and his or her responsibilities do not vary; the main purpose of a functional manager is overseeing an organizational unit, such as a department, within an organization. Also the manager has the responsibility of planning, organizing, directing, monitoring, and evaluating the functions executed in that department and its employees (Buzzle, 2013). In this paper, one will discuss the role of a manager within the functional areas of business. The different function areas within a business, which will be discussed, are human resources, accounting, customer service, and marketing departments.
