MGT 521 Week 3,
Reasoning Aptitude
The Foundation for Critical Thinking (2013), states “how do we come to believe what we believe, and why one belief and not another? How many of our beliefs have we come to through rigorous, independent thinking and how many have been down-loaded from the media, parents, our culture, our spouses or friends” (para. 6)? After completing the reasoning aptitude assessment, I discovered that I am a practical thinker focusing only on plausible solutions to fix real-world problems. As a practical thinker my thought process is taking simple and calculated approaches to a situation. Also as a practical thinker I have to lay out a plan of action before executing it and that can mean researching, organizing, and writing. Additionally, failure is considered an educational lesson because I believe one can learn from his or her mistakes.
Identifying my competencies and work culture preferences helps me in a team setting because I can delegate, listen to everyone’s opinions and not to make quick judgments. “When individuals come together on a common platform with a common objective of accomplishing a task, a team is formed” (Management Study Guide, 2013,

Organizational Planning
Gabrielle Brown (2013) states, “Plans are sets of goals and ways to attain them. Without a plan, managers and their juniors may not be able to achieve their goals or even know when they have run out of the right way” (para. 1). An organization must decide whether they will plan strategic or operational. Strategic planning is considered long-range planning because it helps in determining what direction an organization wants to take its brand in. An organization will need to ask itself questions such as, “Do we need to change our mission? Should we abandon much-loved programs that have outlived their usefulness, and concentrate our resources somewhere else? Do our current staff and management have the capacity and commitment achieve our goals” (Brown, 2013, para. 3)?
Operational planning is considered short-term planning, where an organization looks at day-to-day objectives that can better how the organization runs. For example, detailing how tasks are carried out daily or department procedure changes. The main difference between these two plans is that strategic planning looks at the whole organization and operational planning looks at the departments broken-up within an organization.
In this paper, one will discuss the findings of a SWOT analysis conducted on Wal-mart and determine which plans can best achieve the findings.
Strategic
From conducting a SWOT analysis of Wal-mart one has identified they have a weakness of high turnovers. Wal-mart suffers from this because of the high cost of continuously training new employees and also Wal-mart does not offer competitive wages, which would make an employee, stay with the organization. From this students perspective this needs a strategic planning process because it stores nationwide. Wal-mart has to devise a plan that adequately cuts training cost and also determine a way to cut-down high employee turnovers. A threat identified through the analysis that deals with strategic planning is a competitive increase from brick and mortar and online competitors. Many of Wal-marts competitors such as Target, Amazon, and Costco have taken step to cut its prices, which in the future will not differentiate them from the competitor.
Operational
Operational objectives that can be achieved from the SWOT analysis are the opportunity for healthier foods. This can be considered a short-range goal and is practicable through promoting front displays healthier items, incorporating taste testings, or advertising healthier food options in the weekly flyer

 Team Reflection
Delegation occurs when management assigns certain tasks or responsibilities to his or her subordinates. Alsoitremovessome of the burden from the manager and allows for them to focus on other important duties. In addition, delegating can provide subordinates with a sense of empowerment but manager should use caution because there are some responsibilities that should never be delegated. In this paper, team B will discuss the five behaviors needed for delegating.
Clarifying
When delegating assignments to a team or individual the assigning manager must determine the best individual for the task. Within team assignments there should be more explanation, clarity, defined expectations. Individual assignments are typically easier to clarify as there is one person receiving the task(s). In dealing with multiple people or teams, the manager should have a written plan, specific tasks for appropriate individuals, team andindividual expectations and allow the team to ask questions individually and collectively as needed to confirm his or her understanding and required results. Without clarity
