Change can impact leadership at work by inspiring team members and getting them excited about their future in the company, by allowing new ideas to be considered rather than focusing on old, outdated ideas, and by measuring standards which leads to improvement of standards. It is easy to go to work daily and get caught in the motions. Change in a company can reawaken employees who have gone into autopilot mode; giving them a hope for the future and a new lease on their jobs. According to Change Leadership, “It is those organizations that have continually transformed themselves to meet the new business challenges that have endured, whilst the also-ran’s legacy is confined to the history books,” (Orridge, 2009, pp.xiii-xiv). It is equally easy to focus on an old idea so closely that you can miss the new ideas entirely. While it is unnerving to let go of an idea that you have been working on for years, it is better to consider the new ideas and move forward in that direction, than to be tied to an idea that just is not working. Finally, change inspires control. With new leadership tactics, comes the need for monitoring of the new systems. As we are monitoring standards and comparing them against ideal standards, we will begin to improve and enforce the new standard. Constant monitoring leads to successful businesses…………………………………………

Three leadership theories that I plan on implementing in my leadership style are Hersey and Blanchard’s Situational Approach, the path-goal contingency theory, and the Leadership Grid. Hersey and Blanchard’s Situational Approach is the first theory I will implement. According to our textbook, “In this model, leaders observe, change, and adapt to the situation at hand, and leadership effectiveness is determined by the extent to which leaders can match their styles to the followers to meet organizational goals,” (Weiss, 2011, p.32). I will implement this theory by first determining my followers’ ability to complete task with the followers’ readiness continuum. I will then determine the type of leader style that will best suit my followers. This type of leadership is my favorite because each employee and each leader are different. They may experience change throughout their career that places them in different levels of need. With Hersey and Blanchard’s Situational Approach, I can tailor my leadership style to best benefit and assist my follower. This will lead to a better leader/follower relationship and will improve goal achievement.
